Chasing Neptune


Observing the planet Neptune has always been a challenge with my small 6″ Newtonian. The best image I could capture was a blurry (but beautiful) turquoise blob. Let’s see how the new LXD75 fairs with this faint planet. In the past, the image of Neptune was obtained by using a 6″ Newtonian with a 6mm eyepiece with the help of a 3x Barlow. The image was still quite faint (partially from the extensive light pollution in this area), but the striking color of the planet had stood out.
