Effects of a focal reducer


I purchased a focal reducer for my Meade DSI CCD camera: the images are always too magified by the camera, making things difficult to center in the field of view – even with the GoTo mount. I tested it with a Meade 6″ reflector and aimed it at a streetlamp a block away. Here is the comparison: the focal reducer reduces the magnification by roughly two thirds – this will make centering object a lot easier. Once centered at low CCD magnification, then I can remove the reducer and capture a more magnified image.
