Upon researching prospective observing targets, I discovered M46, and open cluster located in the constellation of Puppis, near Canis Major. It is in the same vicinity as M47 nearby . Within M46, one can see planetary nebula NGC 2438. I will attempt to get an image of this cluster with the CCD at the next outing with the Black River Astronomy Society.
